First-term Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney said on Wednesday that the media is hiding the fact that all these mass shooters are, in fact, Democrats:
It's interesting that so many of these people that commit the mass murders end up being Democrats. But the media doesn't talk about that either.
Her comments rocketed around the county and then around the world, as even the BBC couldn’t resist laughing at America by highlighting how dumb Republicans are in the gun debate.
Today, the Republican who held the seat for six years before retiring in 2016 read Tenney the riot act. Richard Hanna, who was so popular in the district that he won in 2012 with 60% of the vote and was unopposed in 2014, went after Tenney on local radio. He held nothing back:
It’s about her representation of our community and the pathetic way she goes about doing her job. She traffics in soft bigotry, and hate speech is prevalent in everything she says, and fear. There’s a reason why she never got anything done in Albany, and it’s the same reason why she’ll never get anything done in Washington, DC. She makes enemies out of virtually everyone with that ridiculous comment she made that’s all over the country, she effectively alienated everyone in the Republican Party and certainly everyone in the Democratic Party, and became a pariah among the Republicans. They don’t need to hear that in these times. She makes herself someone who is untethered.
Hanna continued:
People in Washington look at this and they can’t believe anyone is so careless and callous, and so full of anger and hate. At a time when 17 people were murdered and others are wounded and in the hospital? It’s callous, it’s selfish, and it’s another example of how Claudia Tenney can’t wait to get her face on TV and it’s all about her.
I remind anybody with this job that the title is “Representative”. You represent 720,000 people. Not just the primary voters who get you elected, and not just the tea party people who rally around you to make you feel good about yourself. You represent the interests and futures of 720,000 people. And there’s nothing about her voting record that represents us!
Hanna has already donated $1000 to Tenney’s Democratic challenger, Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi.
I wasn’t a fan of most of Hanna’s votes when he was in Congress, but if every Republican were like him, the country would be a lot better off.
If you want to help give Tenney the boot, please donate to Anthony Brindisi.
